Dec., 2014 Classes

 

Hello,

 We here at BQE hope that you all had a great Thanksgiving. It was fun to hear the stories of the day from the quilters in the shop for Thurs. open sew this week.

 Christmas is coming very quickly and I hope most of you are further along than I am! We do have some quick projects available and a few last minute bolts of Christmas fabric should arrive Mon. or Tues.

 Please be sure to check our schedule for the last couple of weeks of the month as we will be closed extra days to spend time with family and friends. We will be having our traditional Mystery Quilt day on New Years’ Day.

 We will be scheduling some great classes for Jan. and Feb. Karri has a 2-part class planned and I will be teaching a class using the pattern Rock Candy and the ruler that goes with it. You will have to stay tuned to see what else will be happening.

Bring your own project and join in the laughter and camaraderie! We can order lunch or bring your own. We will be open until 6 pm on the 18^th this month for last minute projects and shopping.

 

 

 

 Demos

 

 

Pam and Melanie and Sandi have made some quick, cute ornaments and will be happy to demo the process for you anytime we are open. We have also been practicing some Furoshiki (wrapping gifts in fabric) to share. Just come in and ask. If you want us to help figure out something else, we will do our best as always!

 

 

 Twisted Fibers

10 am – 4 pm

 

Feel free to come in and sew for the day. No machines allowed today, just handwork. We will have a new project available in Jan.  It is not mandatory that everyone work the same project, but it can be fun to see the different interpretations of someone’s idea.

 

  Mystery Quilt Day

Thurs. Jan.1, *Karri*

10am-4pm

 

Karri has found and modified a quilt top for us to enjoy for our annual New Years’ Day Mystery Quilt. We will plan a pot-luck for lunch.

 

 

 

 We will be closing at one, Wed. 12/24 and closed for Christmas through the weekend. We will re-open on Mon., Dec.29^th and be closed again on Jan. 1^st for our Mystery Sew Day.

 Our Winter hours will start in Jan. and we will be closed on Mondays. I hope this is not too confusing or inconvenient!

 

 

I want everyone to know that we are doing our best to have all of the supplies needed for our classes. We intend to have patterns, fusibles, threads, needles, special rulers, etc. If you do not have something at home already, please give us a call to see if we have it available.

Bigfork Quilts, Etc. is located at 7571 Hwy 35, Bigfork, MT. Class times are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. unless otherwise noted. The classroom will be open at 9:45 a.m. to allow for set-up. Please call (406) 837-7111 or email bigforkquiltsetc@gmail.com to reserve space or if you have any questions. Class fees must be received at least three days prior to class to secure your space. If payment is not received, your reserved space can be given to a waitlisted student. Please call at least 72 hours prior to class to cancel in order to receive a full refund. A cancellation less than 72 hours prior to class will receive a store credit. A minimum of three students is usually required for each class. Supply lists will be emailed upon class sign-up.

 

 

General Schedule

Every Thursday - Open Sew

The studio is open every Thursday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for Open Sew, with extended hours the 2nd and 4th Thursday until 6 p.m. Bring your sewing machine and whatever project you're working on. There is a large cutting table and an extra-large ironing board available for your use. The second Friday of each month is Twisted Fibers for handwork, no machines allowed.

 

 

Hand Quilting Instruction Available

Mary Sanchez is available to provide hand quilting instruction for private or group lessons. Cost is $10.00 per hour. We can help you make arrangements with Mary to learn this time-honored, relaxing skill.

 

Interested in a Class?

 If you are interested in taking a class on a topic of your choice and that fits your schedule, please let us know and we will be happy to set one up that works for you.  We charge $10.00 per hour for individual instruction per person.

 We are already into the month of Nov. and Thanksgiving is coming rapidly.
We have a light class schedule and will be closed the 26th and 27th for the holiday.
 Our Black Friday and Small Business Saturday sale will start Fri. 11/28.

Our Fusible Applique Class with Monique is still on hold. We will make an announcement as soon as she has some dates for us. You will be able to choose what project you wish to work on in this class.

 

 

Landscapes

Many of you expressed interest in taking this class. Melanie is willing to teach it again and we are looking at this Fri. the 14th. Well ahead of Thanksgiving dinner so it can help decorate the table!

 

 

 

Sale Days

Books, patterns, kits and notions will be on sale this weekend at 25% off. Fabric will be 10% off with minimum 1/2 yard cuts. We will have extra bolts of Batiks available this weekend. Karri will be bringing in some of the Bigfork Bay Cotton Company inventory for this sale.  Pre-cuts will be 10% off also. Some exclusions apply (ie; items already on sale, gift certificates, consignment). We look forward to seeing you.

Sept., 2014 Classes

 

Hello,

 We have had a lovely summer here in Bigfork and were happy to see many of our friends come in to see what we had happening. I hope you all had a great summer.

 Last month I mentioned that we would start the 12 Weeks of Christmas this month. I hope you will enjoy our classes. This month we will start with a sale.

Sale Days

We will be having a sale for the first of our 12 Weeks. All patterns, notions, books and threads will be 25% off and fabric will be 10% off.

Come in and see how easy it is to make a small folder for gift cards, business cards or credit cards. We can also show you how to measure and make a cover for a reader or sketchbook.  

 

 

Benefit for the Chaffins

Fri. Sept. 12, 5 pm – 7:30 pm

 

There will be a benefit to help Toni (she is President of the Piecemakers’ Quilt Guild) and Rick. He is recovering from an ATV accident and the bills are steep. There will be a spaghetti dinner, music, dancing and raffle items. For more information, please call the shop 406/837-7111.

Victorian Table Runner

This is a great table runner with an unusual shape and a cathedral window effect. Carol’s instructions make it simple to put to together. It’s a great decoration for the home and a great gift to give.

 

 

Pinwheel Parade

Wed. Sept 24, *Karri* $35.00

10am – 4pm

 

We have pulled some colorful Christmas fabrics to make this fun, quick quilt. Most of us do not want to spend weeks on a seasonal quilt and this is fits the bill for some color to cuddle in.

 

What‘cha Got?

Tues. Sept. 30, *Cinda Raymond* $35.00   10am-4pm

Cinda has made a few of these bags at Open Sewing. She is having fun with them and we thought she should come teach us how to get them done quickly and easily. They are great little carry-alls.

Hello,

 I was beginning to think that this month’s newsletter was not going to get published! But if I just persist, sooner or later the computer will comply. Maybe none of you have ever had problems with your computers but sometimes mine thinks it is on vacation. UGH!

I hope this finds you enjoying your summer. We have a few classes lined up for you to participate in. We’re keeping it light because we understand that guests, harvesting, canning and a day at the lake are also on the agenda.

Twisted Fibers

Tues., Aug. 12

Farmhouse Window Table Runner, part 1

10 am - 4 pm * Pam* $20.00

This is a foundation paper pieced runner by Quiltworx. Pam will teach it in 2 parts. The flying geese will be taught in this lesson and the compass rose will be part 2. There is a pattern and charm elements (foundation papers) for a set of placemats also available. Learn how easy Judy Niemeyer’s instructions are to follow.

Wed., Aug. 20

Crazy Eights Strip Tease

10am-4pm *Clara* $35.00

Ok, NO, we are not dancing on the tables in this class. However, this is a fun, unusual table topper that will get lots of complements. We can help you pick fabrics and Clara will show you how easy it is.

Fri., Aug 22

Farmhouse Window Table Runner, part 2

10am - 4pm *Pam* $20.00

Part 2 will assemble the compass rose element of this runner. You will be amazed at how easy foundation paper piecing is and have a beautiful piece to decorate your home.

Current & upcoming:

We have Teresa Wood’s Huckleberry Fabric! It is beautiful and we are happy to support her endeavors. We also have some new Suzy’s Zoo pieces that make us smile.

We are working on scheduling more classes with Monique of Ladybug’s Cabin for you and we have her new patterns in stock. In  Sept. we will start our 12 Weeks of Christmas projects to get your holiday quilting projects started.
