Completion of Dahlia is a Diva Table Runner. . .

Preparing the setting triangles, begin by sewing a 1 1/2" strip on one side of the triangle.
Trim and add a 1 1/2" strip to the other side of the triangle.
Trim and add a 3 1/2" strip to the bottom of the triangle.  Trim.  Make four setting triangles.
Green strips are added to the ends of the applique blocks for the table runner's outside edges.  Again, one strip is added to one side of the applique block.
It is trimmed.
And then a strip is added to the other side,
and trimmed.
The appliqued blocks and setting triangles are together and ready to assemble together.
Pieced it is bright and cheerful.
Of course it won't be at its best until it's quilted :)

Dahlia is a Diva Table Runner Continues. . .

Continuing with building the "Dahlia is a Diva" table runner begun earlier, I have pressed the fusible web onto the appropriate fabric and cut the shapes out.  It is now time to get the background ready for applique.
Beginning with a square, the pattern calls for two corners being cut off by 2".  To make sure the edge is straight, I lined the square on point with a line on my cutting mat that I marked with green tape.
I then measured 2" in, continuing to use the measurements on the cutting mat.
Thanks to my cutting mat, my cut corners are straight.
It is now time to cut the center triangles that the setting triangles are built around.  It begins with a square.
The square is cut diagonally,
and then cut diagonally again.
There are now four triangles to build the setting triangles around.  More to follow.

Dahlia is a Diva Table Runner. . .

This is "Dahlia is a Diva" table runner in the "Skinny Quilts & table runners II" from That Patchwork Place.  We have a class scheduled for this table runner on Friday, February 1 with Becky teaching.  A sample is in the works.
Purples and oranges are the color palette for this sample.
With the fabrics selected, I photocopied the pattern pieces to trace onto fusible web.  Using a photocopy is sooo much easier than trying to trace the page from a bound book.
When tracing, the flower pieces were traced as shown, one piece within another.  As only 1/4" of fusible web is needed on the edges of the fabric pieces, tracing, and then cutting, the flowers in this manner uses the least amount of fusible web.  Cutting and pressing will be next.

Craftsy 2013 Block of the Month Get-Together. . .

As a quilter, if you are not aware of the Craftsy website, you should get yourself acquainted.  It is an online class site and offers a wonderful array of quilting (and other) classes.

They are offering a FREE block of the month quilt pattern tutorial with Laura Nownes.  Here at BQE several of us have decided to meet monthly at 10am on the 3rd Thursday.  We will work on our blocks and then go to our usual Open Sew Thursday projects.  Please come and join us to share in this project if you can.  Or follow along at home. Sign up here for instructions via video and/or pdf documents.  Click "Add to Cart" to get started.
Here are this month's blocks from some of our group, the offset log cabin.  We will post monthly so you can watch our progress.

Sign up and get started to see what new technique you can add to your quilting repertoire.
