To begin 2014 with a quilting bang, Bigfork Quilts, Etc. is hosting a mystery quilt day.  The store will be closed but we will meet to sew from 10am to 4pm.  Chili will be provided by BQE for our potluck lunch.  

Here are the fabrics that have been selected by Karri for her quilt.  The quilt is simple enough to have the top done in the day.   There are still a few spaces left so please call or email if you would like to join in the fun.

Holiday Make & Take Trees. . .

Today was our Holiday Make & Take day.  We scheduled this day of fabric fun as a way to thank our customers.  All supplies and lunch were provided.

Bee Modern Quilt Group Misses Out on Baked Apples. . .

 At our September Bee Modern Quilt Group meeting I was a no show.  That's a problem when you're the meeting's hostess and the group can't get in.  To show my remorse, I said I would bring dessert for this month's meeting.

I brought baked apples that were still warm and whipped cream.  And this time no one else showed.

Therefore, I took the apples home and ate one.  Boy, was it hmm, hmm, good.

Since I was the only one to show at our meeting, I've decided what our next month's project will be but I'm not telling.  Everyone who attends needs to bring (5) 1 1/2" strips from four different fat quarters.  Are you in for the mystery?  If so, mark your calendar for Tuesday, November 12 at 6:30pm.  I hope to see you there.

Happy Hollow Designs Arrive in Time for Christmas. . .

Bigfork Quilts, Etc. has just received a shipment of holiday ornaments from Happy Hollow Designs.  

We have Espresso Ornament kits for Halloween:  pumpkins, cats, and bats.  And our Christmas kits are for santa, snowman, and poinsettia.

We have four Peppermint Cheesecake ornament kits:  santa, cardinal, 

male Christmas caroler, and female Christmas caroler.  We also have a reindeer table runner and moose wallhanging with embellishment kits available.  Come in and see these adorable patterns and kits. 

Tonight is our Bee Modern Quilt Group from 6:30-9:00pm.  Come join us to sew on a project, share sewing tips, and enjoy a pleasant evening.  Karri will be introducing the idea of doing a block exchange for next month.  We would love to see you.

Bigfork Quilts, Etc. October & November Class Schedules Ready. . .

For the first time ever, we've pulled our class schedule together enough to post two months at once.  Now we'll just have to work (Karri that is) on getting it out a little more timely.  Oh, well, there's always something to strive for:)

We have two classes with guest teachers scheduled for October.  Virginia Compton and Shirley Parra are teaching Atlantic Flyaway on Friday, October 4.  

Cotton Theory's Button Back Runner will be taught by Mo Harrah Wednesday, October 30.  We are excited with the opportunity to offer classes with these special guests and hope you can join us.

For those of you interested in handwork, we have Mary teaching hand quilting and beginning hand applique, as well as our monthly Twisted Fibers get together.  Twisted Fibers has a new instructor as Sandi will be taking over for Karri.

We have two winter projects scheduled in November.  One is a Chick-a-dees raw edge applique wallhanging.  The other is a Photo Frame Quilt, a great Christmas gift.  This quilt is made to frame actual photos, not just the fabric ones.

Clara will be teaching one of her favorite techniques One Block Wonder.  It's always amazing to see how many different blocks can come out of one piece of fabric.

Karri has a longarm group class scheduled in November.  Our monthly classes are also scheduled:  Table Topper Club and Block-of-the-Month.

Bigfork Quilts, Etc. September Class Schedule Posted. . .

School’s back in session, gardening is just about complete, and Fall is in the air.  It must be time to get back to quiltingJ  There a few technique classes on the calendar here at, as well as a wonderful Fall (or possibly Christmas) table runner taught by Clara.  We even have a few Christmas items to get you in the swing of the upcoming holiday season.  We at BQE look forward to seeing you as you settle in for Fall, whether in a class or just to stop by and say “Hi.”

Clara is teaching a class on a table runner with a taste of the Northwest with this Tall Pine pattern that uses a template technique.

The Folded Log Cabin block is being taught by Karri which gives a twist to the traditional log cabin.

There are a couple of classes on the schedule due to several requests.  One is a class on Raw Edge Applique featuring Toni Whitney's Backdoor Bear.

The other is hand quilting with Mary Sanchez.

Christmas is just around the corner and to give you a jump start we are offering two classes this month.  One is  Flip 'n Sew Ornaments with Bonnie Riches.  We are asking for a $5 donation to be made to the Abbie Shelter for this class.

The second is an Easy Apron with Sandi.  A great opportunity to sew your first apron and have a gift completed quickly.

Of course, we have our monthly standbys:  Table Topper Club, of Flower Ballet, a scrappy colorful table runner for Fall,

Twisted Fibers in which Karri will demonstrate the Double Stitch as featured in the Mountain Patchwork patterns in stock,

and our Block of the Month which Sandi is having a fun time embellishing and making her own.

Are You Ready for Fall Retreats. . .

Fall is around the corner and many of us will be attending quilt retreats.  BQE is offering several classes in August for projects to keep our "stuff" organized.

Join Sandi for this first class "Classmate" by Atkinson Designs on Wednesday, August 7 from 10am-4pm as she teaches this fun and functional notions bag.

Making this adorable bag gives you the opportunity to sew with vinyl and zippers, something many of us have had little experience with.  Having made one, Sandi has been able to work the bugs out of the pattern to help you achieve a finished product you will enjoy for years to come.  We have the vinyl, zippers, and clasp available.  Bring you fabric and enjoy a day of sewing.

July Class Schedule, or lack thereof. . .

BQE is taking a hiatus from classes for the month of July (with the exception of our BOM on the 4th Saturday).  We'll have a full schedule for August.

We have added Mountain Patchwork patterns to the shop. These patterns are small scale hand stitched projects using the double stitch.  The stitch is also known as the promise stitch.  We have several patterns available, many with kits. These are easy traveling, go anywhere projects.  Be sure to stop by and see these new additions.

June Schedule is Posted

The new class schedule is ready and posted here.  As summer begins and everyone is busy with gardening and visitors, we have reduced our class schedule.  

Our usual monthly classes, Table Topper Club, 

Twisted Fibers, 

and Year at a Glance block of the month will be held as usual.

We have one floral summer wallhanging class to bring the outdoors in with the Bold Poppy class.

Two new instructors, Carol Cole and Melanie Meeks, will be teaching projects that all quilters need to make quilting time easier: the Thread Catcher; 

and, the Grab 'em & Go tote bag for carrying supplies when traveling.

Please check out the schedule and see what fits for you.  May everyone have an enjoyable summer and be able to find time to get a few hours of quilting in, or at least a visit to your quilt shop :)
